Challenge of the Rahi was a promotional BIONICLE mini-comic packaged with McDonald's Happy Meals in 2001. It was the first of various promotional comics released in parallel with the main story, and was never collected into a graphic novel. The story revolved around Matoran defending themselves from a Rahi attack.
Plot[]
Toa Kopaka and Lewa rest from their search for the Masks of Power. Matoro invites the Toa to a Matoran disk throwing championship. Kopaka refuses, but Lewa accepts for the both of them. The Toa continue on their quest for Kanohi, while the Matoran journey to the field to practice their disk throwing. Jala has Maku scout ahead, while Huki brings up the rear. Maku runs into a Nui-Jaga and flees back to the group to warn them. Jala refuses to call the Toa, claiming the Matoran can handle this themselves. Kongu devises a plan. They'll catch the Rahi in a net. Jala determines Huki should trigger the net with his disk. Huki is hesitant, but Jala believes in him. Huki successfully traps the Nui-Jaga, but it struggles to escape. Before it can do so, the six Matoran concentrate and merge into a Matoran Nui. The merged being hurls the snared Rahi clear across the island, before it un-merges into the component villagers. The Matoran continue to the training field, but now they have a tale to tell the Toa!
