Comic 13: Swamp of Shadows is the second part of the series "Battle for Power". It was released in July of 2008. To understand what is going on at the beginning, read Comic 12.5.
Plot
We know what has happened to the three Toa Nuva on Karda Nui, but what of Gali, Tahu, and Onua? They discovered a swamp. A world of strange rahi creatures and mud. But, the real problem of the swamp is, you never know what is below the surface.
Our story starts as we follow Tahu, Toa Nuva of Fire, searching for the mask of life. Remember that he doesn't know that the mask of life has made a body for itself, becoming Toa Ignika, buy you do if you read Issue 12. Toa Tahu comes upon a mysterious globe. He tries to get closer, but is hit by an invisible barrier, sending himdown to the swamp land below.
Krika, a Makuta, comes up and sees the toa of fire and tells him that the Makuta hate Toa so much because they cannot be them. Tahu asks if he is supposed to pity Krika, but Krika tells him that he has to know why he must die, and he sends a blast that knocks the toa of fire off of his feet. Toa Tahu nlasts lava up into the air, as a signal for help from his fellow Toa Nuva.
Meanwhile, Gali thinks she has found one of the six keystones, and using her powers, she crushes the plant surrounding it to pieces. Then Gorast swoops down on the toa of water, just as Gali fires her Nynrah Ghost Blaster at the Makuta, knocker her out of the sky. Gali tells the makuta to surrender, but the Makuta tells her never.
Gorast is too far sunk into quicksand before she realizes it, and goes down to the depths below. Gali thinks she has won, but Gorast flies up out of the quicksand, swooping down on Gali again.
At the same time, Onua is caught by not one, but seven Makuta by the name of Batil. Onua grabs one of the look alike makuta and thretens to break his head off, but Batil and hisselves from the past don't care, so Onua summons the earth to make a giant blast.
The battle takes to the skies as Onua flies up in the air, fires his weapon on the makuta, and sees Tahu's cry for help. On his way, Onua sees the makuta attacking Gali. He swoops down and graps the makuta, then dropping him to a hard landing below. Pointing out Tahu's signal, Onua and Gali go to help their fellow toa.
