The Mangaia is the semi-dark and twisted lair of Teridax. It housed a gate to Metru Nui, a pool of Energized Protodermis, and various weapons, oddities, and technology for use against the Matoran. It was also attached to the Bohrok Nest.
When the Matoran arrived on the Island of Mata Nui, it served as Makuta's lair. Here he created Kraata, submerged them into his pool of Energized Protodermis, and transformed them into Rahkshi. He later used the Rahkshi to find the Mask of Light, in which he was unsuccessful.
The Toa Mata battled him here, and Teridax was defeated. Takua ventured further into this lair and discovered the Bohrok. He later came back as Takanuva to fight Teridax, and he and Teridax fell into the pool after a game of Kolhii. They fused into Takutanuva. Takutanuva lifted the gate to Metru Nui, and held it while he brought Jaller back to life. It crushed Takutanuva, crushing Teridax's armour.
It was later looted by the Piraka. The Spear of Fusion was discovered, and the spear created Vezon.
