Onu-Wahi was the underground region of Earth on Mata Nui. It consisted of tunnels beneath the earth, with small underground caves. In one such cave, Tahu's Kanohi Mask of X-Ray Vision was hidden. On the the surface, it was mostly just a barren, rocky region. However, it featured an extensive underground tunnel system created by the Onu-Matoran that led directly to multiple other regions of Mata Nui; by the time the Toa first arrived, the Onu-Koro highways reached Ta-Wahi, Po-Wahi and Le-Wahi. During their quest for the Seventh Toa, Jaller and Takua even happened upon another highway that led to the remote region of Ko-Wahi.
Many Rahi inhabited Onu-Wahi both on the surface and beneath it, for example Kofo-Jaga, Ussal Crabs, and the mysterious Vatuka beast.
When the Toa Metru arrived on Mata Nui with the Matoran, Turaga Whenua led the Onu-Matoran to this region. Eventually, the underground caverns and Onu-Koro were created.
During the Bohrok invasion, a squad of Gahlok arrived and flooded the caves. It was during this time that Nuparu discovered the Bohrok were mechanical, Krana-controlled shells and created the Boxor out of Krana-less Gahlok.
Onu-Wahi was abandoned after the Matoran returned to Metru Nui, and the region was destroyed when Mata Nui awakened.
