Principles were the lesser virtues upheld by the different Matoran types. Each principle was derived from one or two of the Three Virtues.
- The Ta-Matoran believed in the principle of courage, derived from virtue of Duty.
- The Le-Matoran believed in the principle of faith, derived from the virtues of Unity and Duty.
- The Ko-Matoran believed in the principle of peace, derived from the virute of Destiny.
- The Onu-Matoran believed in the principle of prosperity, derived from the virtues of Duty and Destiny.
- The Po-Matoran believed in the principle of creation, derived from the virtues of Unity and Destiny.
- The Ga-Matoran believed in the principle of purity, derived from the virtue of Unity.
