Organization

Hey guys, I'm new to these parts. My name's Shawn, and I'm a Wikia Helper checking the place out. You guys have a pretty amazing database built up so far - there's definitely a lot more to it than I originally thought (I'm something of an old-old-schooler, as the only sets I have are some of the original Happy Meal promo kits and the first Onua).

I do have a couple of suggestions simply regarding organization. I've been looking around the books sections and noticed there's not really any kind of set template for them. Some of the book articles are more organized than others - might it help users coming in solely looking for info if there was something more standardized?

I also noticed a lot of uncategorized pages that might have something to do with BIONICLE video games (things like enemies, locations, etc.), but I wasn't sure as I'm not too familiar with them. How do you guys treat video games within the BIONICLE mythology, and would there be a good way to categorize them in their own section? Shawn 19:08, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi Shawn. You brought up two very good points; allow me to be the first to address them (though hopefully not the last, since I would like to hear my fellow admins' opinions on this). =)

About the books, we have a Manual of Style, but there is no entry for a book article, which is why there is no set template. Changes will have to be made to the Manual of Style accordingly. As for the actual process of standardizing them we are working on creating a project page where things that need work are posted for anyone to work on; this will be put on there when we get around to making it.

I would also agree with you about the video games; in my personal opinion I think it would be wise to have an "Expanded Universe" entry under the Bionicle Knowledge section where we would list video games and other things that don't fit in to the Bionicle canon. Most video game enemies and locations are canon, but the reason they are uncategorized is simply because no one's gotten around to it, LOL. My bad on placing the message in the wrong place, MarioGalaxy! But I'm glad you like the suggestions, guys. I did notice this page had a very nice layout, as it also includes a Contents box. And as far as an Expanded Universe goes, the game info would be a perfect launchpad to start from. I did have another question about how the community actually handles the toys themselves; are they not really a concern here? I'm thinking it might be a useful resource for collectors to go into what kind of packaging is used on which sets, and what sets contain for parts. Is that kind of thing doable, or is the focus more towards the story and characters? Shawn 19:56, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

We focus on the story rather than the actual Bionicle sets, though we do have a sort of iffy "Set Information" section under a lot of the character pages. We do have a "Sets" hub, but it's just a list of all of the Bioncle sets. Perhaps we could have a separate page for each character's set information. It would certainly take a lot of work but it might be worth it. ^Toa_Auserv?...BPAdmin 20:10, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Set Information is fantastic! It would just need to be a standard part of the character pages. Having the Sets articles link back to the character pages is a great idea and would be a good way to keep the article organization tidy. Like MarioGalaxy says, keeping a record of the actual toys is what keeps this a Hobby wiki rather than an Entertainment one. All this is stuff that's just off the top of my head right now, but I'd love to keep a dialogue on it going! Shawn 20:20, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

This isn't intended as much as a knock on Brickipedia as much as a testament to how well you guys have been doing so far, but I don't really like their organization at all. They have very few links that can take you directly to useful info and not much information on any random set's article. I think what they HAVE done well is organized the information they do have info boxes under product art. Maybe that'd be a good direction to take? Shawn 21:28, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Actually, disregard that whole statement. I'm brand new to this community and you all, and the last thing I want is to come off as trying to tell you how the wiki should be run. Boo! Sorry about not being online today, it was a busy day for me. About set info: a lot of people don't care about how many pieces are in the sets when they're looking for storyline info (which is mainly why we exist), but I don't really see anything wrong with it. And with all this talk about books, we could do with a few templates for each series.

A vote's good, and mine (obviously) goes to 'yes'. It seems that having a comprehensive repository of all BIONICLE information would only make this wiki stronger. And following the basic wiki principle, it shouldn't be too much work - if a template is constructed, and everyone listed the pieces for at least one set they own, a lot of info would be filled in quickly and easily. Books

Wow, I had no idea my piece count suggestion would be taken so well! That's awesome!

I've been thinking a bit about the Books section again as well, and how we could use a template for it. I like this page, as it really just adds a Contents box at the top, and makes the page look a little more orderly. It wouldn't require much of a change to the contents of most book articles otherwise, as the sidebar is already standard. Alternately, we could remove the Contents boxes from those book articles that have them. Thoughts? Shawn (talk) 18:48, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Columns

Even if I use Monaco, the Main Page looks really ugly in columns. It's even worse in MonoBook. It was good before, but that gets pushed down a lot by the ads in Monaco now. ~Lih

However, if we don't use columns, the ad box will push the entire page down. See Sannse's page that would show what Wikitroid's Main Page will eventually be like when the second ad comes. Wikia really wants all the wikis to use the new format. If you don't believe me see this. Did You Know...

Hi I just made an edi on the Did You Know section on the main page whick is also about Bionicle Heroes that is true about the Toa Inika all having four-spikked feet which is true. New Edit Tab

Hey guys - Wikia is trying a new experiment with getting new people to edit pages. What we want to do is change the Edit bar at the top of pages so there's a simple tab around "Edit This Page", which will make it stand out a bit. The idea is that this will make it more eye-catching to users who aren't as familiar with the Monaco look as some of you are.

Like I say, this is an experiment. What we want to do is take the data from, say, the past month and compare it against a two-week trial period where we'll have the Edit tab active, and compare to see if there's a change in the number of viewers editing pages. We want to use Bioniclepedia, since we need info from a new Toys wiki, and you guys have a lot of traffic through here. You can see an example of how it looks in use on Muppet Wiki.

2009 Info

Well, I thik the skin should be changed. Not that theres anything wrong with it, I just think that it could be changed. Blue and white is the default skin. We could even customize the skin. I just think it would look better. As for the sidebar, maybe add a category for Toa and Villians or something? Main Page in New Category?

Notices

I noticed in the notice section that the first notice states no copying from other Bionicle sites, but we're copying from BIONICLEstory.com all the time. So it it only referencing BS01? If so, it's unneeded, a BS01 member can report and prove if they think a member copied something. They already do anyway, exept for the prove part, but it's not hard to look up anyway. We mention no copying in the site rules page, that should be enough.

Spoiler in the search box

This seems like the best place to put this. I was just waiting for the recent changes to load up when the words "Teridax loses!" flashed up for a second in the place of the search thing.
I'm unsure if i've missed something but this seems like a spoiler to me. Could someone who knows more than me about search boxes maybe look into that?

Well I was on recent changes (i've got main & all saved in my favorites) It automatically comes recent changes all when I turn on the Internet, so I clicked main and the spoiler cam up in the space of the searchbox for a few seconds, then it disappeared and the normal left hand side stuff showed up.

Correction, it DID but only when the page was loading. It appears to be fixed now but I advise everyone to keep an eye on the search box in future incase this is more serious than it looks. Oh! sorry Auserv! I must have missed your bit on how it isn't a spoiler. Well why would anyone (or anything if it was a glitch or a bug or something) actually put something to do with the future story line down in the search box for no reason? Anyway, we don't know what will happen yet.
For the past eight years Bionicle has surprised us with year finalies we never would have expected. 2006, who knew bionicle would go from the barren wastelands of Voya Nui to the watery world of Mahri nui? 2003, Who knew bionicle would go from the island paradice of Mata nui to the ciy of Metru nui 1000 years ago?
Bionicle could just have the entire universe gang up on Teridax, he kills them all, and the great beings come and beat him up?! Its unlikely but it could happen and Teridax would actually win in a way! As a wise bionicle once said (I forget which one) "The future is not set in stone"
Anyway, the future sertainly is not set in stone and as i am trying to explain, could be completely different to what people think will happen.

I can come up with for this is that someone randomly inserted "Teridax loses!" into one of the MediaWiki pages, but only an admin can do that, and what admin would? BS01-BPedia Bara Magna Map

Just so everybody on BPedia understands the score here.

BS01 (led by me) owns Roxtus, Tajun and Tesara.

BPedia (currently led by Panakalego) owns Vulcanus, Iconox and The Wastelands. (If I could find a page here, I'd link it.)

BS01 also owns the Black Spike Mountains, and the Hot Springs.

BPedia also owns the White Quartz Mountains, and one quarter of an Oasis we found. Currently, they have an "alliance" with Bonehunters.

BS01 pledged to destroy said Bonehunters when their usefulness is at an end. BPedia has agreed.

The line connecting the Tesara and Roxtus areas is an underground tunnel. This way, neither area is cut off from each other by the BPedia borders. It is only for transportation, not for bad stuff.

The city of Atero and Creep Canyon are off-limits.

Why? Don't you like it? The reason it has changed is because Bionicle is in Bara Magna now, not Aqua Magna, so we thought the last skin was too Aqua Magna and, if we are to continue, we have to fit with the times and change to a more current skin. (My rubbish explanation!) Basically, this skin is more Bara Magna. Hope I helped.

RPG

Hi guys. I'm mtmerrick. I'd like to tell you about an text-based RPG I run, which, for lack of a better name when it was created, is simply called Space Wars. It is a Star Trek meets Star Wars Universe, set in the year 3009.

We use the Star Wars timeline, but pushed forward 100 years, so we can factor in the real life timeline, and things that take place in the timeline since Star Trek began having discrepancies with real life, like Lilo and Stitch, and Ben 10.

The Milky Way and the Triangulum Galaxy were destroyed by the Borg, but after the Borg were wiped out, My character, Marik, and a changeling named Raks made a new galaxy, simply called he Great Galaxy. However, the relative peace and stability of the Federation-Republic is being destroyed by the IESA, a faction of Sith, combined with every other bad guy in the local group, and the Anterian ShadowClan, a group of demented aliens from the farthest reaches of the universe, who are out for conquest of the Great galaxy.

You can join the Jedi, Starfleet, the Sith, or even be a space pirate! Any aliens from the Ben 10, Lilo and Stitch (no experiments though), Star Trek, or Star Wars are allowed, or make your own species!

In an attempt to create an army to drive off the IESA, StarFleet tried to use transporter tech to bring them back to life, but because of the half-matter half-energy of their DNA (Viruses) all atttempts ended in catastrophic explosions. But, before the project was scrapped, about two dozen toa had been created.

Now when Everything got sucked out of the MU, I mean everything. Including Terry's antidermis. It was frozen in the cold vaccumm of space, mut recently, My character has thawed him out. >:D (Funny to note, i'm a good guy. :P ) And also, a group of semi-reformed bounty hunters have decided to free Miserex!

How did this happen? Will they Meet? how 'bout Epic Battles? planets blowing up?

You should add some more interlanguage links, you currently have only three as actual interlanguage links (in the "Languages" box) and five in the bottom of the welcome box.

Tying Up Loose Ends

Hi Guys:

I've been gone for a very long time, but I remembered this wiki one day so I've decided to come back to tie up some loose ends. I'm resigning as whatever I am right now. I don't know if I'm chief admin anymore or what!

I just wanted to say that it was really fun to work on this wiki. When I found the original BIONICLE wikia, called Nuipedia, it was filled with false information. One example was it said that "Krekka was a Toa with Nidhiki". The former admin of Nuipedia was a guy named KFan II, who was banned from BionicleSector 01 for spreading false information. So in spite, he created his own wiki. Well, I found the wiki abandoned one day and asked Wikia for admin powers to it. I got them, and Nuipedia was no more.

Bioniclepedia was born.

KFan II would return one day. He saw himself as being ousted in a coup (he wasn't totally wrong, but it was a coup for the right reason.) He tried to ban me from "his" website, but Wikia staff informed him that as he had spread false information and abused the wiki, he was no longer in charge. He has not visited the wiki since.

Bioniclepedia grew and grew. I think at one point we had more articles than BS01. But I dissapeared as I had school, friends, and other stuff to do in meatspace. But now the Bionicle Wiki, no longer Bioniclepedia, is in a new generation of fans whom I am sure will do a great job of maintaining the website.

Part of me cannot believe that I am part of the reason for perhaps the largest Bionicle Wiki in the universe. But part of me also knows that I could not have made it without the help of other admins and editors like you all. So thank you. You know what, looking back, there is some irony. KFan II started Nuipedia and was ousted by me. Then Nuipedia became Bioniclepedia. Now I'm the one who is ousted and Bioniclepedia is The Bionicle Wiki.

So I'd like to thank all of you who read, edit, and manage Bioniclepedia/The Bionicle Wiki.

Right... I think this is the place to discuss this.

There are a few things I'd like to point out first.

• This has become quite a big matter, and I therefor think it's only fair if every active member have a chance to say what they think about the matter, and we, the administrators, will look at what the community thinks before we make a final decision.
• All of the administrators have equal authority right now, also meaning that I am equal to the other administrators right now.

So, many of us have witnessed the recent conflicts involving Bold Clone. My opinion is that things have gone too far.

I do agree on that he might have gone a little too far this time; accusing an administrator of being a vandal and/or liar is a serious thing, but I don't remember the rules stating anything about that. So I do think he is overusing these word a little.

   Sure, is is right, because in theory, the admins in question did vandalize, since they did, in the eyes of Bold Clone, lower the quality of the articles. But now we get the the topic of how we want the articles to be, which can wait.

The important thing is that no one wanted to hurt anyone or anything. What I think Bold Clone was trying to say is "X undid my improving edit to the Y-articles, thus reducing the quality of the article." ... "Now X says that I did Q, but that isn't true."

Also, I'd like to clarify what vandalism is.

“Vandalism (using offensive language or being hostile in general, replacing or renaming pages, removing or rewriting pages with false information, etc.) is obviously prohibited on The BIONICLE Wiki. Minor vandalism, such as adding false information (it will be easy to tell if you are just misinformed, and if so you will not be punished), will result in a warning, and if necessary, point reduction. Major vandalism will result in an immediate 3-day block, and repeated offenses of minor or major vandalism will result in increasing magnitude of block time. ”

My opinion is that nothing should be considered vandalism unless the vandal intended to damage the article or the wiki as a whole.
Regarding the liar thing, I think it's the same thing there, you don't lie if you say what you think is the truth.

Which means that yes, I think Bold Clone used a little strong words, but he's not exactly 'wrong' either.

To me, this all looks like the situation where everyone think that they did right, and the others did wrong.

Discussion

If I have to state my opinion on this, I'm still on Bold Clone's side, although I do think he will need to rethink when it comes to arguing with admins.
Everyone still have the right to disagree and debate with an admin, but when an admin say "Stop", it does mean stop. You can always discuss it with another admin if the first one won't listen. And this applies even when you think the admin is hurting the wiki. You just have to realize that no matter how much you want to, you can't always make everything perfect. It's sad, but true.

But what do everyone else think about this?

I'm remainind neutral. The above is very convinsing but I would also like to add that Bold Clone is an account used by the same user who has the Bobavett account/ BobaVett was recently blocked on TBW and I told you that he insulted me and Abc8920. The fact he's using his other account to argue with admins shows that he has started arguments with 3 admins, accusing them all of being 'liars'. (He also called me a 'hypercrit' and a 'rubbish site leader') The fact that this has involved him in all these situations implies he is generally targeting an argument. It's like he's trying to annoy us into looking bad then report us.

1. Bold Clone is the first name he used here.
2. He created his BobaVett and BobaVhett accounts on other Wikia wikis not knowing that he could use his Bold Clone account there too.
3. I already knew that he and BobaVett/Vhett was the same person.
4. I also knew that he was formerly an admin of BRW, and that there had been some kind of conflict there.
5. I did not know that any of his other accounts have been blocked here at TBW. (I'll look that up, since I can't remember that)
6. I did not know that he had insulted you or Abc8920.
7. I do know that he has been blocked on BS01 because the staff members over there were tired of him and his general attitude.
8. I am sure that you are wrong on "he is generally targeting an argument". I believe that he is simply misunderstood.

I do not get mad at users normally, even if they put a swear on a page, I do not shout at them. BUT THIS GUY IS THE WORST USER I HAVE SEEN! I have seen how he keeps a list of "Mask Pages Left" and he is just taking away the balanced white background.

Yes Sir. The thing is that I have been tracking BC ever since he was blocked on the other site to me it is easy to just say hey you are wrong and here is why along with a link or something but I believe when you call a Admin a liar and Vandal you are going too far. We respect every single user here and to give respect you should at least recieve respect. I have looked up BC records here and on other sites and I must say this isn't his first offense. I understand what you mean, and I have also seen a lot of Bold Clone. But you must also have seen how incredible active he is, and how he will do whatever it takes to improve the wiki, although his idea of improving it might be a lot different from that of other people.

This is why I also think that BS01 made a big mistake by blocking him, instead of understanding how much he could help, if they could just understand him. He has many good idea, and when he has made up his mind, he won't let anyone or anything change that. Which is, maybe, the problem. He will not always accept that the staff is in charge.

Also, Bold Clone requested that he would be temporarily unblocked so he can at least defend himself. Do you think that would be a good idea?

1. It didn't bother me at all that you debated on my talk page. After all, I was asleep at the time.
2. Yes, he did say that Kazi22 was liar and vandal, but that normally isn't enough to get someone blocked.
3. As far as I know, he didn't violate any rules, maybe except edit warring, but that would apply to Kazi22 too, I think.

My conclusion is that it is not motivated to keep BC blocked. And we shouldn't be discussing him without letting him defend himself. I know many of you will disagree with this, but my decision is to unblock him, at least temporary.

And I know that I shouldn't do this without getting an OK from you guys first, but Bold Clone do have a good point here - he did not deserve to get blocked.

I also know that this is quite hypocritical. I recently told Bara Magna that he did wrong when he increased BC's blocking time without asking anyone else first. I know this, and I've thought of it.
